Background Information[]
Character origins[]
Further information: Cinderella (film)
Cinderella as she appears originally in her namesake film.
After the death of her father, she was forced to work for years as a servant for her stepmother, Lady Tremaine, and her stepsisters, Anastasia and Drizella. When they received an invitation to the ball at the palace, Cinderella got ready with a dress that her mouse friends prepared for her. However, her stepsisters destroyed her dress. Fortunately, her Fairy Godmother appeared to give her a dress and glass shoes, but she warned her that at midnight the spell would disappear.
At the palace, she met Prince Charming, with whom she danced, but at midnight she had to leave, losing one of the glass slippers on the way. Although her dress and her carriage disappeared, she still kept one of the glass slippers to remember that night. In the morning, it was announced that Prince Charming would marry the girl he danced with and that she lost the glass slipper. When Lady Tremaine realized that it was her step-daughter at the ball, she locked her away.
Fortunately, Jaq and Gus, rescued her. Although Lady Tremaine caused the glass slipper that the Grand Duke brought to break, Cinderella is shown to have the other glass slipper, which she tries on where it fits. She later married Prince Charming.
Personality[]
Cinderella is elegant, warm, good-hearted and diplomatic. She was always straightforward and pragmatic as a teenager, feeling that being forced to become a servant for her stepmother and stepsisters and the work she was subjected to was unfair. She also detested royalty until she became a Queen herself, by which she learned to become gracious and kind.
Physical Appearance[]
Cinderella as she appears in the first Descendants film.
In her debut, she is a young woman of average height, slender build, an hourglass figure, and a softly-shaped, kind face. Her skin is fair and flawless, and she has pink lips, and blue eyes. her hair is strawberry-blonde and medium-length with soft bangs.
In Descendants and Descendants 2, she appears with a similar appearance to the animated version.
In The Rise of Red, she is brown-skinned woman with a long light blue loose French braid that's swept over her left shoulder with a large silver crown. Her dress is a sparkling light blue ball gown with a low-cut neckline, blue puffy sleeves, glittery sheer opera gloves, and glass slippers. She also wears a silver necklace around her neck. In her youth, Ella still had light blue hair with curly bangs that was kept short and above her shoulders.

Beyond the Isle of the Lost: Wonderland (Barnes & Noble exclusive edition)[]
Cinderella, alongside her husband and daughter, travelled to Camelot where they met Ben, Mal, Doug, Evie and Jay. There, she and King Charming told the five that Chloe would be attending Auradon Prep the following school year.
Descendants: The Rise of Red[]
She makes her debut appearance at Charming Castle where she dances with her husband. She and King Charming gift their daughter Chloe a pair of glass shoes as a reward for being a good person. While taking her daughter to Auradon Prep, Cinderella runs into her old friend, the Queen of Hearts. Though she addresses her by name, the Queen insists she is to address her by "Your Royal Highness". When the Queen of Hearts summons her soldier-cards to attack and surround everyone at Auradon Prep, Cinderella tries to appeal to her goodness, saying she knows what happened years ago was a stupid prank, but the Queen insists it was more than stupid for her, and that the former servant girl abandoned her to be with her prince. She then demands that her old friend kneel before her, but the latter refuses to kneel to a tyrant even if it means losing her life. The Queen then decrees she has defied a royal order, with her daughter Red calling it an act of 'treason' and the Queen orders to have her beheaded.
Red and Chloe travel back in time to Merlin Academy, where they meet the younger versions of their mothers. In this time, Cinderella goes by 'Ella' and is the housekeeper of her own home, despite attending the most prestigious school in the kingdom. She is best friends with the future Queen of Hearts: Bridget, and often tries to protect her from Uliana's Gang. Prince Charming also attends the school, and Ella, though denies her affection toward him, clearly likes him. Ella later suggests taking Bridget to the Castlecoming dance as friends.
Red and Chloe follow Ella to her family home to ask her questions about Uliana, but Chloe accidentally breaks a vase when trying to help her clean and Ella gets punished by her stepmother for it. Chloe tries to defend her, but her efforts make matters worse and Ella blames her for it, stating that life is not fair.
Later, while cleaning the front yard, Chloe comes to talk, saying she needs someone and since her mother is not present, Ella is all she has. The latter teaches her the difference between true goodness and evil, and that nothing is as clear as it seems, and that she needs to get her hands dirty if it is for the right reasons. ("Get Your Hands Dirty")
By stopping Uliana's gang and stopping the evil prank they are to play on Bridget, Ella presumably sneaks to Castlecoming with Bridget as planned (supposedly with a little help from Fay who gave her the glass slippers) before dancing with her future husband. After returning to their original time, Chloe discovers that her mother is fine.

Trivia[]
- Cinderella is derived from the French word Cendrillon, which translates in English as "little ash girl".
- Her real name is Ella, being official in the Descendants universe according with her appearance in Descendants: The Rise of Red, but in the 1950 animated film it is mentioned her birth name as Cinderella. In some stories, Cinderella's real name was Ella (short for Eleanor), and because she would always lay in cinders, her stepfamily would call her Cinder-Ella. The 2015 live-action remake, however, uses the original story's revelation that her original name is Ella, and some Disney-issued storybooks also use this as well.
Brandy Norwood as Cinderella in Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella.
- Brandy Norwood, who plays Cinderella in Descendants: The Rise of Red, previously played another version of Cinderella in the television film Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella for ABC's The Wonderful World of Disney.
- According to Suzanne Todd, executive producer of Descendants: The Rise of Red, although Cinderella is played by Brandy like in the 1997 film, and the character has as its main basis the animated character from the 1950 film, the Cinderella from Descendants is an independent character, being a version exclusive for the franchise.[2]
- She shares strong similarities with former major character, Uma, and current character, Red in her youth.
- In The Rise of Red, the young Ella has butterflies embroidered on her clothes, as well as on her belt. This may be an homage to Disney's 2015 live-action remake, where the butterflies are part of the dress and the glass slippers that the Fairy Godmother creates for Cinderella.
- Ella was actually rich before, even before she fell in love with Prince Charming. This was exempted, however, as she was forced to work as a servant.
- Cinderella is the second protagonist to be raised by a villain, the first being Snow White, the third being Quasimodo, and the fourth being Rapunzel.
- Although it is not stated in the movie how old she is in the past, the official novelisation of The Rise of Red states she is seventeen.
- Ella presumably sneaks to Castlecoming with Bridget as planned with a little help from Fay who gave her the glass slippers, before dancing with her future husband. But in Shuffle of Love: A Descendants Short Story, which is based off of Castlecoming, Ella doesn't appear for some reason. It is likely that Morgan Dudley didn't want to reprise her role or was busy working on another project.
