Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo.
―Fairy Godmother's catchphrase

Fairy Godmother, originally known as Fay, is a character originary from Disney's 1950 animated film Cinderella. She appears as a major character of the film Descendants, as well a supporting character in its sequels, Descendants 2 and Descendants 3, and in their spin-off, Descendants: The Rise of Red.

She is one of the heroes of Auradon and she is also the mother of Jane. She is the former headmistress of Auradon Prep. She accepts the children of the Isle of the Lost into Auradon Prep and teaches them Remedial Goodness 101 lessons. After giving the role of headmistress to Uma, she is the new president of Auradon University.

Fairy Godmother is portrayed by Melanie Paxson, who also voiced the character in Descendants: The Royal Wedding, whereas Grace Narducci portrays her teenaged self, Fay, in Descendants: The Rise of Red.

Background[]

Personality[]

Fairy Godmother is a wise, kind, and accepting teacher at Auradon Prep school. She accepted Ben's proclamation of giving the new generation a chance. She tried her best to be patient with them and even gave them the opportunity to speak to their parents. She also tried to defend them on family day and trusted Mal to give her back the wand, being extremely proud when she and the other VKs did so and turned good. She can be strict especially with her daughter. She has given up magic and believes it is what is in the inside that counts. Jane mentions her mother believes the true magic comes from knowledge and books. Despite having given up on magic, she gets annoyed when the villains insult her magic.

When Fay was teenager she is described as someone who is comical in her struggles with developing her magical ability.

Physical Appearance[]

Fairy Godmother has short, dark brown hair and is often seen in a short-sleeved formal blue shirt, with golden buttons and a shirt collar. She has a blue necklace and a velvet, bow that matches the bow of the animated Fairy Godmother in the animated Disney movie Cinderella.

History[]

Before the formation of Auradon[]

Fairy Godmother in Cinderella

Fairy Godmother as she appears originally in Cinderella.

After Cinderella's stepsisters destroy her dress to go to the ball at the palace, the Fairy Godmother appears before her to help her. With her magic words, "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo", the Fairy Godmother turned a pumpkin into a carriage, as well as turning Cinderella's animal friends into horses and servants.

After that, the Fairy Godmother gave Cinderella a dress for the dance and some glass shoes, but she warned her that at midnight the spell would be broken and everything would return to normal.

Descendants[]

At some point after Auradon was founded 20 years ago, Fairy Godmother became the headmistress of Auradon Prep and has a daughter named Jane who is shy and insecure but fascinated with magic, even if she doesn't let her daughter use it. When the descendants of the heroes' sworn enemies come to Auradon, they have been tasked by their parents to steal her magic wand. The Fairy Godmother teaches "Remedial Goodness" to the villain kids to teach them how to be good. As noted by Jane who explains to Mal, Fairy Godmother believes that the real magic is found within books but also noted by Jane, she refers to ordinary books that have nothing magical about them. During the family event, she arranged a video call so the VKs can speak to their parents she becomes defensive when Maleficent taunts her by saying "the hamsters had to be back on their little wheels?" telling the villain they were mice, she tells this to the four VKs and remarks one more time to the villains that they were mice she changed before standing to the side of the screen not wanting to deal with them any further but also to give the villains time to speak to their kids

Despite her younger appearance in the film, Cruella refers to her as "old bat".

Descendants 2[]

During the beginning scene, she chases away the press from Ben and Mal. They thank her and she disappears. She is heard planning the Royal Cotillion with Jane on the phone on multiple occasions.

At the cotillion, she asks Jane to help out with the punch bowl but is surprised and excited to find out she has a date. She reacts surprised, yet touched and happy when she finds out it is Carlos De Vil, exclaiming: "Bippity boppity!"

Later, Ben and Uma ask her rather forcefully to shut down the Isle of the Lost's barrier but she refuses, knowing that Ben is cursed along with being appalled by both letting loose all of the captured villains and Uma's rudeness. After Uma is defeated and Ben's spell is broken, she takes in Mal's spellbook and starts celebrating with Lumiere.

Descendants 3[]

Fairy Godmother is turned to stone by Audrey, who was influenced Maleficent's scepter, until Mal defeats her with Hades's ember. While celebrating Mal and Ben's engagement, Mal gives a speech that convinces everyone to lift the barrier from around the Isle and release all the villains in hopes of a better future. Fairy Godmother willingly lends her wand to Mal to lift the barrier, then celebrates with everyone.

Descendants: The Royal Wedding[]

Fairy Godmother appears on the Isle with Beast and Belle to find Mal, Ben, Hades, Evie, Audrey, Maleficent, and Jay. She then helps create an impromptu wedding setting and officiates the wedding between Mal and Ben before transporting them back to Auradon, where everyone breaks into celebration.

Descendants: The Rise of Red[]

After the Fairy Godmother is chosen as the new president of Auradon University, Uma is given the job as headmistress of Auradon Prep. When she first hears Uma is inviting the daughter of the Queen of Hearts from Wonderland to attend Auradon Prep, she is against the idea, but softens at the mention of the late Carlos, who would have wanted to see all the kingdoms united, and personally sends the invitation to Wonderland.

That turns out to be a mistake. At the First Day ceremony, the Queen conjures up her card soldiers and breaks Fairy Godmother's wand to immobilize them all. The Queen's daughter, Red, and Cinderella's daughter, Chloe, manage to change the outcome by going back in time to alter history and help the Queen remain good. A young Fay is the first person the girls meet when they first arrive at Merlin Academy over thirty years in the past.
