Jane is a supporting character in the first three Descendants films. She is also a main character in the books School of Secrets: Ally's Mad Mystery and School of Secrets: Carlos's Scavenger Hunt, as well a supporting character in the other books of the School of Secrets series. She is the daughter of the Fairy Godmother and girlfriend of the late Carlos De Vil. She was often shy and originally insecure of her looks but grew more confident after growing closer to Carlos.

She is portrayed by Brenna D'Amico, who also voiced the character in Descendants: Wicked World.

Background Information[]

Personality[]

Originally shy and insecure, Jane grew up in Auradon where she was taught by her mother that magic came from inside of ordinary textbooks with Jane not being able to perform magic of her own. She often lacked self-confidence and was fearful of Mal, Jay, Evie and Carlos upon walking past them on their first day at Auradon Prep. Although she slowly trusted Mal after the latter made her hair appear better, Jane was easily influenced by the other Auradon Kids into believing once again that the four Villain Kids were trouble. After becoming friends with the four, Jane's personality drastically improves until she learns not to judge people on their appearance but merely how they are on the inside.[1]

Despite being trustful of the Villain Kids, she still had a dormant distrust of them to the point she accused Mal of stealing the mascot uniform unaware that it was CJ Hook. She is easily persuaded to the point Mal assured her that the uniform would be returned at some point. Upon learning she possesses the ability to cast magic, Jane feared that she could not perform it well since it was a new concept to her but eventually began to use it after being complimented.[2]

After she began to trust the Villain Kids and discovered that they were not as evil as she was originally brought up to believe, Jane's attitude and personality drastically improved, she became more confident in herself and trustworthy in her abilities as she took on the role of the head of the Royal Cotillion's decorating committee when Audrey was unavailable. She is more supportive of her friends and more disgusted when she does not approve of a situation such as when Chad claimed Lonnie could not join the Tourney team due to being a girl, she is also supportive of Ben and Mal's relationship where she used the stained glass window she created to help Mal save Ben when the latter was spelled by Uma. Although more confident, she can still be unaware of certain situations such as when Carlos had to explain that he wanted to go to Cotillion with her and then date her afterwards.[3]

Despite encountering Audrey on the day she became the Queen of Mean and being there when the latter spelled a group of party attendees to fall asleep, Jane continued to show that she was not scared and confronted Ben when he was in his Beast form, being the one to revert him back to normal by using a hose full of water from The Enchanted Lake that stopped the curse. Although she found her mother turned to stone, Jane still proved herself to be a worthy ally and still showed her affection for Carlos, being grateful he gave her a necklace of their names for her birthday, she later supported the idea for the barrier to be brought down when Auradon and the Isle of the Lost were united and was pleased to welcome the Isle kids.[4]

Physical Appearance[]

Jane is a young teenage girl with pale skin and blue eyes. Prior to meeting Mal, she had short brown hair and wore a plain blue dress with matching bows down the middle, she later wore a blue dress with silver accents, a white collar and a pink bow with peace toned shoes. She accessorized with a small golden bow headband and a bracelet. After having her hair lengthened, it became slightly wavy, she then wore a darker blue and white dress with a pink bow, a pair of earrings and plain shoes, she accessorized with a ring and a bracelet.

During the run-up to the Royal Cotillion, she wore a blue and white laced dress that lacked a bow, she wore bow-shaped earrings and plain shoes. In Mal's vision and during Lonnie's attempt to join the Tourney team, Jane wore the standard Auradon Prep cheerleader's uniform. At Cotillion, she wore a longer light blue dress that sported a large pink bow around the waist, a necklace and two bracelets.

During Ben's marriage proposal to Mal, Jane wore a long sleeved light blue dress with buttons, later she wore a second blue and white laced dressed that lacked the bow, instead choosing to wear a small blue bow headband, she accessorized with a necklace, ring, two bracelets and a pair of earrings. During Audrey's time as the Queen of Mean, Jane wore a cropped blue dress that lacked sleeves.

Powers and Abilities[]

Much like her mother, Jane has the ability to use magic though she did not use them in the films, instead using it in Descendants: Wicked World. Unlike her mother, she can use magic without the Magic Wand.

  • Fairy Magic: Jane's magic appears as blue energy, like many magical users, her spells are conjured by rhyming.
    • Telekinesis: Using her powers, Jane can make objects move without touching them.
    • Conjuring: Jane can make objects appear with a snap of her fingers.

History[]

Descendants[]

Upon entering the Remedial Goodness 101 classroom to hand over a form for her mother to sign, Jane walks down the row of seats frightened of the new transfers before quietly ordering the four to return to their studies. Inside the bathroom, she encounters Mal who changes Jane's hair by using magic with her hair becoming longer, slightly boosting Jane's self-confidence as she tells Mal that she would invite Mal to be by her side during the coronation if her mother allows it. After Family Day, Jane's attitude turned sour towards the Villain Kids where she insulted Mal as a way to please Audrey and the other annoyed Auradon Kids, the incident caused Mal to revert Jane's hair back to its original state.

During coronation, Jane steals the Magic Wand from her mother in an effort to change her looks back only for the magic of the wand to spiral out of control which causes a whole in the barrier of the Isle of the Lost to appear, the incident which then allows Maleficent to appear inside the Auradon Cathedral, after Mal, Evie, Jay and Carlos turned good and turned Maleficent into a lizard, Jane faced punishment though Mal convinced Fairy Godmother that it was not needed and instead told Jane that she looked perfect either way. That night, Jane sat alone but was eventually invited to dance with Carlos and Jane.

Descendants: Wicked World[]

Season 1[]

Upon learning she can use magic of her own, she attempts to change Audrey's hair only for it to not appear how the latter expects.[5] Later, she accuses Mal of stealing her mascot uniform only to be assured that it would be returned which she accepts. After finding herself in Jordan's lamp alongside her friends, she suggests an idea for the Neon Lights Ball which she attended and was where she discovered that CJ Hook was behind the problems she and the others faced.

Return to the Isle of the Lost: A Descendants Novel[]

When Carlos admitted he had feelings for Jane, he mentioned that while the longer hair looked pretty, he preferred the shorter version.

Descendants 2[]

On the day of the Royal Cotillion, Jane spent most of her time planning for both the decorating committee due to Audrey being away with Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather, Jane would then ask Mal multiple times for her opinion on the party decorations, the former, with Ben's help, created a stained glass window of the latter with Mal as a surprise for Cotillion. When she met up with Carlos, he asked her to the event after explaining his true intentions a few times before wondering if she would date him afterwards, she accepted and attended with Carlos, Jane then revealed to her mother that she was with Carlos, Jane eventually assisted in saving Ben from Uma's spell by showing the stained window to Ben. After Uma's defeat at the hands of Ben and Mal, Jane continued to dance.

Descendants 3[]

Jane stood by her friends on the morning that Ben proposed to Mal, she supported the two and was happy for them. On her birthday, she had it hosted at The Enchanted Lake, unaware that Audrey had stolen Maleficent's Scepter and the Queen's Crown. Not seeing Carlos at the party, Jane wondered where he could be as Chad remarked he had most likely forgot, on Audrey's arrival, Jane watched as the other attendees were forced to fall asleep though Jane escaped by hiding in the waters so that the magic would not affect her. In the forest, she encountered Ben in his Beast form where she used a hose to revert him back to normal, she then reunited with Carlos as Harry Hook attempted to flirt with her, something that Carlos stepped in to stop. After reuniting with her friends, Jane came across her mother who had been turned to stone to which she vowed everything would be back to normal and that she had a new necklace courtesy of Carlos as a birthday present. After Audrey was defeated, Jane was supportive of the idea of the barrier being brought down and welcomed the kids from the Isle of the Lost after it was united with Auradon.

Descendants: The Rise of Red[]

Jane is briefly seen in a flashback from the "Break This Down" scene during Uma's opening narration.
